LOTO
Lockout/Tagout

Controlling hazardous energy and preventing unexpected start-up during machine intervention

This training focuses on the identification, isolation and control of hazardous energy sources in machinery, helping teams prevent unexpected start-up, stored-energy release and unsafe intervention during maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting and setup activities.

The course supports the implementation of effective Lockout/Tagout and hazardous energy control practices, aligned with applicable standards, regulations and internal procedures such as OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147, ANSI/ASSP Z244.1, ISO 14118, NR-12 and other local or site-specific requirements.

Ensuring zero-energy state before maintenance and intervention

Participants will learn how to apply structured Lockout/Tagout procedures to verify isolation, control residual and stored energy, assign clear responsibilities and ensure safe working conditions before maintenance, troubleshooting or any intervention inside hazardous areas.

Structure and learning objectives

  • Identification of hazardous energy sources
  • Understanding electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal and stored energy risks
  • Lockout/Tagout procedures and best practices
  • Verification of isolation and zero-energy state
  • Prevention of unexpected start-up according to ISO 14118 principles
  • Roles and responsibilities of authorized, affected and responsible personnel
  • Selection and use of locks, tags and energy isolation devices
  • Alignment with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147, ANSI/ASSP Z244.1, ISO 14118, NR-12 and local site requirements
  • Practical application in real maintenance, troubleshooting and intervention scenarios
  • Strengthening safe work practices during machine intervention
