The ‘Functional Safety of Machinery’ seminar is an international training and examination course designed to provide in-depth knowledge of machine safety and functional safety in accordance with current international standards. Participants gain a thorough understanding of the requirements of the relevant standards ISO 12100, ISO 13849 and IEC 62061, which are essential for the safe design, development and assessment of machinery. The course combines theoretical content with practical examples and interactive discussions to analyse risks in machine control systems, develop appropriate protective measures, and specify and validate safety functions.

A key component of the seminar is the teaching of methods for risk assessment and risk mitigation, for defining protective measures, and for calculating and evaluating Performance Levels (PL) and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL). Participants are introduced to various circuit design concepts, learn how to select and integrate safety components, and develop safety functions based on specific real-world cases.

The seminar is rounded off with an official final examination: upon successful completion, graduates receive an internationally recognised certificate as a Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland^®) – a qualification that confirms their expertise in the field of functional safety.

The course is aimed at professionals with experience in machine safety and functional safety, such as application engineers, system integrators, design engineers and safety specialists. Prerequisites for certification include at least three years’ professional experience in the field of functional safety and a technical university degree. The international standards ISO 13849 (Parts 1 & 2) and IEC 62061 serve as the basis for the course and must be brought along by participants.

The course fee is 2,800 euros, including the examination fees charged by TÜV Rheinland^®. Course duration: 4 days plus the examination on day five (180 minutes).

For recertification after 10 years, the examination may also be taken without attending the seminar. A fee of 1,500 euros is payable for this. Based on our experience, we do not recommend this option, as the examination is very comprehensive and is always based on the currently valid requirements.
